The H. Clay Kellogg House and the John Maag Farmhouse are housed at the Heritage Museum of Orange County. The Legacy Museum of Orange County is dedicated to conserving, showcasing, and rebuilding the region’s history via hands-on, minds-on interactive learning.
More About HMOC
It is a natural and cultural history center situated in the Santa Ana area. The museum’s centerpiece, which spans over 12 acres, is a historic plaza surrounded by large floral gardens and citrus trees. Among the structures is the Kellogg House, which has been a favorite field trip site for teachers and students around Orange County for over thirty years.
HMOC also boasts the Gospel Swamp Natural Area and Gospel Swamp Farm. The farm is managed by volunteers from local high schools and colleges. HMOC is currently constructing a “Borrowing Barn” for the purpose of lending tools. It uses farm food for educational programs for kids and other museum activities. Originally, the site housed a fully working blacksmith shop that served as the head office for the Orange County Blacksmith Guild, which hosted regular blacksmith lessons. Regrettably, the shop burned down in the early hours of July 4, 2019, necessitating its reconstruction. While there is no set date for reopening the Blacksmith shop, HMOC intends to have it operational as soon as possible.
The museum’s most recent significant endeavor is to repair the John A. Maag Farmhouse. The 1899-built residence has three levels and 5,600 square feet of interior living space. It is intended to house museum archives, offices, and displays. Two of the Maag Farmhouse’s original outbuildings are now meeting space, house offices, and serves as HMOC’s gift shop.
