About Orange County, CA:

Orange County’s 3 million residents enjoy a nearly perfect climate where parks and beaches provide abundant opportunities for outdoor activities. Orange County is the home of exciting professional sports, a wide range of tourist attractions and quality venues for visual and performing arts. Orange County boasts a thriving business economy and a well-educated work force.

Whether it’s manicured beach towns or celebrated theme parks, all framed by oceanfront towns and luxury yachts, “The OC” stands out as one of the state’s most iconic destinations. The always-amazing Disneyland Resort, roughly a 1-hour drive south of L.A. and 2 hours north of San Diego, continues to be one of the best-loved theme parks in the world, while Knott’s Berry Farms and other OC attractions amp up the fun meter. Shopping abounds at the immense South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Fashion Island in Newport Beach, The Irvine Spectrum, or the newest retail destination of Pacific City in Huntington Beach. Surfing culture is nowhere greater than the heart of Orange County 42 miles of beaches with Huntington Beach long identified as Surf City, USA.

The county’s earliest settlement, Mission San Juan Capistrano, was founded in 1776. The mission eventually added commerce, trading locally prepared hides and tallow for books, furniture and other supplies from the East Coast. The entrepreneurs who followed saw riches in Orange County’s good soil, wide expanses of range and pristine beaches. Settlers and farmers built homes, churches and schools – the foundation of 34 cities to come. The first cities – Anaheim, Santa Ana and Orange, incorporated between 1876 and 1888. In the late 1800s investors eyed agriculture, particularly oranges, as a great opportunity and the industry flourished, hence where the county name derives.Agriculture declined after WWII, however with the completion of Interstate 5 the county’s prosperity soared. Becoming a bedroom community to Greater Los Angeles, the opening of Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and incredible beaches now more easily accessed by tourists, The OC became Southern California’s hot spot.

Today Orange County, California envelops you in the ultimate Southern California lifestyle… casual sophistication, pristine beaches, legendary theme parks and endless options for fun in the sun or cultural exploration. With sun-soaked days and star-filled nights, it is easy to become immersed in the California dream. The region is renowned for art festivals and its celebrated performing arts centers. OC Parks offers sprawling wilderness and nature parks, perfect for recreation of the sun-soaked variety, with miles of trails and coastal preserves to explore. The OC has produced a new generation of award-winning chefs taking full advantage of California’s bountiful produce and local seafood.

Not only does Orange County host world famous theme parks such as Disneyland and Knott’s Berry farm, we are also home to such attractions as Wild Rivers water park, the Fun Zone at Balboa Peninsula, Discovery Cubeand Disney’s California Adventures. For the sports enthusiasts, almost within the shadow of Disneyland’s Matterhorn, is Edison Field, formerly called The Big ‘A’ where the California Angels have been thrilling baseball fans since 1966. Also nearby is the Honda Center, home to the Anaheim Ducks hockey team. When the Ducks aren’t at home, the Center is also a popular venue for rock concerts, ice shows, and the John Wooden basketball tournament.
