About Coachella, California

Coachella is a city in Riverside County California, and is the easternmost town in Coachella Valley. It is located 28 miles east of Palm Springs, 80 miles east of Riverside and 130 miles east of Los Angeles. The city has a population of 41,000 according to the 2010 census. The city has a total area of 28.95 square miles, all of it is land.

Known as the City of Sunshine, Coachella is more of a rural and agricultural community in the desert. It is one of the fastest-growing cities in the 20th century.

The name “Coachella” is borrowed from the Coachella Grapefruit. The town’s stretch of State Route 111 is named Grapefruit Boulevard in its honor.
