Murrieta is a city located in Riverside County, California. The city has a population of 104,000 according to the 2010 census. Murrieta has experienced a drastic increase in population between 2000 and 2010, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. The population boom surpassed the population of Temecula.

Murrieta has a total area of 33.6 square miles, of which 99.89% is land, and 0.11% is water. It is bordered by the city of Temecula to the south, towns of Wildomar and Menifee to the north and the French Valley to the East.

The city has an average of 263 sunny days and 35 days with measurable precipitation each year. It has the Mediterranean to dry-subtropical climate with the period of November through March to be somewhat rainy.

Dry farming of grains was the top commercial enterprise of the city for decades. In the 1980s, Murrieta performed an inventory of buildings that could fall under the set of city guidelines to be considered a historical significance. Their decades of concerted effort to preserve the buildings and its history earns the city the monicker, “Country Living at its Best”.
