About Wildomar, California

Wildomar is a city in Riverside County that is located in a fast-growing area. According to the 2010 census, the population of Wildomar was 33,000, an increase from 14,000 at the 2000 census. The city has a total area of 23.7 miles, all of it land. Nestled between Murietta and Lake Elsinore, Wildomar became a city on July 1, 2008.

The name Wildomar was coined from one of the names of the three founders: Wil is from Willam Collier, Do is from Donald Graham, and Mar is from Margaret Collier Graham.

Wildomar was an outpost for the pony express for the Butterfield Stage in the early part of last century. It was also a stop for the Southern California Railroad. After the tracks washed out, the growth of the city slowed, and it became a farming and ranching area.
