Laguna Niguel is a city in Orange County, California in the United States. The name Laguna Niguel is derived from the words “Laguna” (Spanish for “lagoon”) and “Niguili” (the name of a Native American village once located near Aliso Creek). Laguna Niguel is primarily a hillside town with approximately one third of its land designated as open space. It consists of mostly hilly terrain, being located within the San Joaquin Hills. Neighboring cities are Aliso Viejo and Laguna Hills to the north, Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano to the east, and Laguna Beach and Dana Point to the south. On the west, it borders the significant unincorporated area of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park.

As of the 2010 census, the population was 62,979. Laguna Niguel is an extremely ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Laguna Niguel home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Laguna Niguel residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Laguna Niguel also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 17.08% of the city’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Laguna Niguel include German, Irish, English, Italian, and Iranian. In addition, Laguna Niguel has a lot of people living here who were born outside of the US (21.76%).

Laguna Niguel is also home to many upscale neighborhoods including Bear Brand Ranch, El Niguel Heights and Golf Course, Ocean Ranch, Laguna Crest, Laguna Woods, Laguna Sur. Coronado Pointe, South Peak, Crest de Ville, Niguel Coast, Palmilla, Beacon Hill, and Monarch Point, which offer city, canyon, and ocean views. Other key neighborhoods include Rancho Niguel, Marina Hills, Niguel West, Niguel Summit, Kite Hill, Rolling Hills, and San Joaquin Hills.

The City’s Crown Valley Community Park serves as the center for the City’s recreational programs and activities. With its community pool, outdoor amphitheater and 18-acre Niguel Botanical Preserve, it attracts over 240,000 people annually for its many events and programs.

Laguna Niguel is a decidedly white-collar city, with fully 91.31% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Laguna Niguel is a city of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Laguna Niguel who work in management occupations (17.25%), sales jobs (15.10%), and office and administrative support (11.43%). Also of interest is that Laguna Niguel has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Furthermore, the City is one of the more educated communities in America, with a full 53.27% of its adults having a college degree or even advanced degree, compared to a national average across all communities of 21.84%.
