About Long Beach, California

Long Beach, the 7th most populous in California, is located on the Pacific Coast within the Greater Los Angeles area of Southern California. As of 2010, its population was 462,257. Long Beach is the second largest city in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and the third largest in Southern California behind Los Angeles and San Diego.

The Port of Long Beach is the second busiest container port in the United States and is among the world’s largest shipping ports. The city also maintains a progressively declining oil industry with minor wells located both directly beneath the city as well as offshore. Manufacturing sectors include those in aircraft, automotive parts, electronic equipment, audiovisual equipment, petrochemicals, precision metals and home furnishings.

Long Beach is one giant playground located right in the heart of Southern California. Here you can experience it all from a deep-sea adventure at the Aquarium of the Pacific right on the bay and a voyage in time aboard the historic Queen Mary to lively guided tours through downtown and the colorful East Village. Within an hour’s drive, you can explore the fabulous worlds of Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure and every major Southern California attraction.

Long Beach is home to some impressive businesses and facilities including Boeing, the World’s largest mural, on the world’s longest breakwaters, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the infamous RMS Queen Mary, and the first trans-continental airplane flight. With a major regional airport hub at Long Beach Airport, the city continues to grow and capitalize on is great location in Southern California.
