About Palmdale, California

Palmdale is a city located near the Mojave Desert’s westernmost point and is one of only two cities in the Mojave Desert within Los Angeles County. The city lies in the Antelope Valley region of Southern California.

On August 24, 1962, Palmdale became the first community in the Antelope Valley to incorporate. Forty-seven years later, in November 2009, voters approved making it a charter city. Palmdale’s population was 152,750 at the 2010 census. Palmdale is the 35th most populous city in California.

Palmdale is a small city surrounded by a vast arid landscape that evokes the golden age of western movies. One of the city’s claims to fame is its US Air Force testing centre, where aircraft like the legendary Lockheed Blackbird took their first flights. For a day trip exploration, visitors and residents alike can set off into the Antelope Valley for a stark and beautiful desert scenery, or may ascend the San Gabriel Mountains which receives plenty of snowfall in winter.
