According to a report by Global Attractions Attendance of 2013, visitors to Knott’s Berry Farm increased making it the 13th most visited theme park in North America. The number of visitors increased after the theme park which is located in Buena, California was purchased by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. This pioneer park in America paved the way for a new era of family entertainment. In addition to its funnel cakes, Boysenberry Punch, and fond memories, you might not know a few things about the Berry farm.
It Started as a Berry Farm
Maybe you know Knott’s Berry Farm as a family entertainment park rich with rollers coasters, historical rides, family rides, and water rides. What you may not know, however, is that the park was initially a berry farm in the 1920s. It was run by the Knott family and hence the name Knott’s Berry Farm. The Knott family used to preserve and sell berries and pies on the roadside. However, it is not until Cordelia Knott started a Chicken Diner Restaurant that the farm became popular and was put on the map. The population grew with time to become what it is today.
It Faces Stiff Competition from Disney
Historians claim that Walter Knott and Walt Disney had a cordial relationship. Knott Amusement Park was opened decades before Disney, which started in 1955. The two families visited each other and learn from each other. When Knott family decided to sell their park in 1997, Disney was one of the interested buyers, but the Knott family could not allow their legacy to be swallowed by Disney.
Timber Mountain Log Ride
The Timber Mountain Log Ride attraction was first opened in the amusement park in 1969 and was known as Calico Log Ride. The most interesting thing about it is the fact that the first person to take the 38-foot plunge was John Wayne, the Duke.
Is it Haunted?
Over the years, visitors and employees have described hearing strange noises especially in the Peanut Playhouse in Camp Snoopy. The claims further state that the lights go on and off when no one is around the area. Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Diner Restaurant, Virginia Gift Shop upstairs and the Bird Cage Theater are also believed to be haunted.

Knott’s Berry Farm is the exclusive amusement park that is known to open its doors free to those who served in the US military or those who are serving there today. The park runs this offer from the month of November extending all the way to the first week of January.
